About Me

Statement

Brilliant color, the play of light and shadow, sunlight revealing the intricate veins of a petal, the intelligence shining through a bird's eye - these are the small wonders that excite me! I often paint an aspect of my subject that might otherwise go unnoticed, and so doing am able to touch again a bit of that beauty that I so love and cherish.

My art has also become a way for me to help wildlife threatened by loss of habitat, as a portion of each sale benefits environmental and conservation organizations.

About Me

My love of nature and animals was born in the rich, colorful world of Hawaii. As I child, I expressed my delight using crayons and fingerpaints, and later progressed to charcoal, ink, acrylics, batiks, and watercolors. I'm currently emphasizing watercolor, with its transparency and fluidity, in my work. I also enjoy the surprises that water mixing with pigment spring on me from time to time.

Now living in a small town in southern Oregon, I am happiest photographing and painting the abundant wildlife and beauty that surround me. Often, as I work on a project, I glimpse a family of black-tailed deer waiting outside for a treat of apples, or spot a new generation of grosbeaks flying to the feeder.

I am a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and support the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, the World Parrot Trust and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
